An insatiable thirst for excelling in his craft; collaborating with others; displaying an unequaled work ethic; using his talents to advance the Kingdom of God; and using his talents to help others grow. This is the definition of Maurice Mosby.
As a native of Memphis, Tennessee music was always in Maurice’s blood. Maurice’s musical journey began early on; however, his passion for producing started at the age of fifteen, when he and a childhood friend began creating music accompaniments on old pieces of equipment as a hobby. It was then that he learned the basics of sequencing and when his hobby developed into his passion.
Maurice Mosby has been a professional musician for 10 years. He has performed in countless venues all over the country, including churches in Los Angeles, the Capitol Building and the Whitehouse in Washington, D.C., and the world famous Apollo Theatre in New York City. He has shared the stage with artists from diverse genres such as Yolanda Adams, Faith Evans, Lecrae, 112, and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
After realizing that creating music was his main goal, he began to showcase his talent in that area. In 2004, Maurice took his talent to another level when he created New Generation, an urban youth choir that has influenced the lives of more than 200 members thus far. His passion for developing young artists has extended beyond the high schools and churches to the stages of the Universoul Circus and the FedEx Forum.
As his confidence grew and his style developed, his passion also grew. His ability to play a variety of musical instruments only adds to his appeal and his unique sound. Although Maurice grew up in a Christian home, he does not find himself restricted to producing familiar sounds of church, but instead he ventures out into a world of unfamiliarity while increasing his ability to produce new and versatile music. Maurice is interested in producing all types of genres as long as the message that is conveyed strengthens people and aligns with Gods word. Maurice writes simple songs about complex topics as they relate to God and how He desires that everyday life should be lived. To Maurice, it is not the type of music that matters, but it is the message delivered that matters the most.
Maurice is keen to point out that everything he listens to directs his musical development in some way. However, he certainly recognizes that he admires Stevie Wonder for his musicianship and longevity; Musiq Soulchild for his vocal arrangements; Rodney Jerkins for his versatility; Karma for their sound; Timbaland for his approach; Neptunes for taking creative risks; Kirk Franklin for his songwriting ability and style; Israel & New Breed for their diversity; and Tye Tribbett & G.A. for their passion and creativity. All these producers, songwriters, and singers have inspired Maurice to do what he does, which is to make great music.
So much talent and so many accolades in such a short period of time, yet the best is yet to come for Maurice Mosby. Keep your eyes and ears open as this dynamic musician, uninhibited performer and skillful producer makes his way towards becoming a world-renowned producer, songwriter, and vocal coach.
